Help Us Make Masks
For R100 you can pay for 5 reusable cloth masks! To make 2020 masks, we need 404 of you lovely humans to donate R100 each.
Each mask costs R20 to make. We need to raise R40400 to buy 2020 masks.
We will supply two cloth face masks to each recipient, with instructions on how to use them.
From Friday, 1 May 2020, it will be mandatory to wear a cloth mask when you leave home, and we want to help mask people. For this reason, we have partnered with CBD CAN to raise funds for small entrepreneurs to make them. CBD CAN will distribute the masks to vulnerable people in the Cape Town city centre and through our sister CAN in Khayelitsha who will supply masks to people living in informal settlements. On 23 April, President Cyril Ramaphosa told South Africans to wear masks.
"As we begin the easing of lockdown restrictions from the beginning of May, we are calling on all South Africans to wear a face mask whenever you leave home. Our clothing and textile industry – including many small businesses – are gearing up to produce these masks on a mass scale," he said in an address to the nation.
We know many people don't have access to masks. For this reason, we are raising funds to pay people to make them. CBD CAN will distribute these to vulnerable people in the Cape Town city centre and through our sister CAN in Khayelitsha who will supply masks to people living in informal settlements.
By helping us have masks made, you will help sustain small entrepreneurs and help mask people in our community.
Earlier this month South African national minister of health Zweli Mkhize said: “There is no question that the use of masks is one of the best ways of preventing the spread of infection," said Mkhize.
